Ifas is a series of poly-monochrome paintings based on the West African Ifa (or Fa) divination system.
Ifa was added in 2008 to the “Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity” by UNESCO. It is a form of geomancy, graphically represented by a binary system of signs that ressemble the Roman numbers I and II and are organized in groups of eight signs.

Ifa’s binary system is not only structurally analogous to the binary system of 0 and 1, bits grouped into bytes that form the basis of our digital world, but it also resembles the chromosomes observed by genetics.
